The most vitamin D is generated when UVB is most intense
This assumption may be incorrect
Hypothesis: 8 AM is better than noon is based on
- 1) The Healing Sun –1999 book highlights at Vitamin D Life
Sunbathe for TB only 6-9 AM – not in middle of the day when sun was too hot – pg , 119 - 2) UVB produced 8X more vitamin D as solar UV – July 2012
It appears that UVA decreases the vitamin D generated by the UVB - 3) UVA from some tanning beds and most windows decrease vitamin D blood levels – March 2012
- 4) Perhaps the decrease of UVA in the morning results in more Vitamin D being generated
Even though there is less UVB in the morning than at noon
Some implications if this hypothesis is correct:
- Getting sun before starting work is more important than noon-day sun
- Can get good vitamin D without getting hot (note: people in Singapore get early morning sun)
- Should use narrow-band UVB bulbs instead of 95% UVA, 5% UVB bulbs
- Should maybe use a filter which reduces the UVA which you get
- Should not not have lots of windows - which totally block the good UVB, but pass the bad UVA
