Position: Chair of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Department at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City. Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Graduated as a medical doctor from Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University Cairo, Egypt in 1989 she then went ahead and did her post graduate training at the University of British Columbia- Canada and obtained the Canadian and American boards in Medical Biochemistry and Clinical Pathology respectively in 1995. Recently she also obtained a Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration (EMHCA) from Zayed University, UAE in March 2007.
Dr. Abdel Wareth previous employment was at British Columbia Children’s & Women’s Hospital in Vancouver- Canada as a locum medical biochemist consultant for complex biochemistry. This was followed by Mafraq hospital, Abu-Dhabi- UAE were she held various positions as Chief, Clinical Chemistry Section, Head Medical Research and Specialized Testing Center, Deputy Medical Director for Quality, and Deputy Medical Director. She has been appointed as a Chair of laboratory department at SKMC since March 2006. She is an active member in various scientific societies and has several publications to her credit in the field of laboratory medicine.
Analytical methods for Vitamin D measurement
This presentation addresses the various challenges we face in measuring Vitamin D in the laboratory.
It reviews the various analytical techniques and discusses the limitations of each technique.
The issue of assay standardization is also discussed briefly as well as the candidate reference method for vitamin D measurement.
The presentation concludes with the SKMC experience with Vitamin D measurement.
