U.S. Preventive Services Task Force has decided to see if a person has osteoporosis, rather than doing anything to PREVENT it
Strange - when there is SO MUCH DATA
U.S. Preventive Services Task Force
Summary
The USPSTF recommends screening for osteoporosis in women aged 65 years or older and in younger women whose fracture risk is equal to or greater than that of a 65-year-old white woman who has no additional risk factors.
Update Feb 2013
- USPSTF concludes with moderate certainty that daily supplementation with 400 IU of vitamin D3 and 1000 mg of calcium has no net benefit for the primary prevention of fractures in noninstitutionalized, postmenopausal women.
- Wow! a group which is even more conservative than the Instutute of Medicine, which recommended 600 IU for bone health 3 years before this.
- In a way USPSTF is correct: 400 IU is not enough to help. Many reviews have concluded that much more vitamin D is needed.
Proof that Vitamin D Works shows 5+ random controlled trials which proved that adding vitamin D improved bone health
