Respond to daily Vitamin D in 2-12 months
Most responses to daily oral Vitamin D plateau in 2 or 3 months
Grassroots Health

Perhaps much slower response time if person is not healthy/ is needing lots of vitamin D

- Ensure a healthy pregnancy and baby - take Vitamin D before conception has the following
Vitamin D Levels Plateau typically in 11 weeks (Vitamin D starts to help in about half that time)
- Defining normal level of vitamin D (need 4000-5000 IU) - Heaney Spring 2013 11 weeks
- Vitamin D every 25 days may be BETTER than daily – RCT May 2018 > 11 weeks
- 3 to 6 months to plateau with 4,000 IU vitamin D daily (Cardiac Patients) – June 2017 14? weeks
- Pregnancy
#00F:20 weeks - 35,000 IU vitamin D weekly during 3rd quarter pregnancy – RCT March 2013 4 weeks if pre-load
- 70,000 IU pre-load +35,000 IU weekly dose

Many Vitamin D trials last 3 months or less
However, sometimes responses do not plateau for 4-12 months
No one seems to know why some people respond slowly
Slow responses might be due to differences in
Genetics – activation of genes can change over months
- Note: Activation/deactivation of 6 genes is not noticed by a vitamin D blood test
Age
Approximately 10% of people are NON-RESPONDERS
- Wonder how many non-responders are actually just slow responders
Pre-existing conditions – such as removed gallbladder, poor liver or kidney
Gut adjustment – may take many months for gut bacteria to become efficient at absorbing Vitamin D
Initial Vitamin D level
- Suspect a different response time if start at low vs high level of vitamin D
Compliance increased AFTER person notices benefit
Reduced some drugs, smoking, stress, etc after getting benefit from vitamin D ==> which increased Vitamin D levels in body
Obesity
Example Heaney 2003: 38 years old, healthy, men

Doubt that the response is the same for:
very young, very old, unhealthy, females, starting with >50 ng or < 10 ng, etc.
A loading dose increases Vitamin D levels 30X faster
Loading Dose of Vitamin D category has the following
{include}
10,000 IU of Vitamin D for 7 years with no excessive Calcium in 4,800 patients – Dec 2018
